Okay, laugh it up, it's called the Unicorn, very funny. But you at least gotta admit, this is one majestic robot
magallanicaThe Magallanica, the residence of the Vist Foundation; the place protected by ideologies and authority. It shares the name as what was believed to be an undiscovered southern continent during the age of exploration that was home to many mythical beasts. The Magallanica in this story is symbolically home to the "beast of possibility", the Unicorn that, as one can easily tell, symbolically has the name of mythical beast as well. "The relaxed voices of the birds was the only thing accompanying the air. This shrill and peaceful silence that would hurt the ears made it feel like a completely different world from the noisy industrial space colony." Banagher and the jade eyed girl discover the Magallanica's mansion | laplace's box During the destruction of the first colony, Laplace, by a anti-space migration organization during the calendar change from Anno Domini to Universal Century, the original charter between the colonies and the Federation was lost. However, it was miraculously recovered by the hands of Syam Vist who held the federation's power over the colonies hostage with it after the Federation took the opportunity to change the charter and renounce the freedom of the colonies. At the time the story takes place, it has been decided that Laplace's box is to be handed over to someone worthy of its influence and ability to overthrown the federation's control over the colonies. This could either result in freedom for the spacenoids, or the revival of Zeon, the revolutionary organization that seeks to render earth useless to humanity. "Though they benefited from the magic of the Box and had the power to move the world, they were content to be mere observers, watching everything. Like the meaning of the word itself, they were just watching." "The Vist Foundation hid the Box for nearly 100 years, and could manipulate the Federation government whenever and however they wanted to. At the start of the Universal Century, the Box landed in Syam’s hands at a chance of 1 in a billion. Humanity broke free from the chains of gravity, religions, and race, and should have gotten a Box that represented the New Covenant of the Universal Century, Laplace’s Box. It sealed a seal that was 100 years long, and still remained with him." Syam discovers Laplace's Box after surviving the destruction of Laplace |
The ancient french tapestry
Cardeas explains the meaning behind the tapestry to Banagher and the jade eyed girl | The allusion to this tapestry's symbolizes many aspects of our story. In the dialogue below, Cardeas Vist describes its real world symbolization and in bold is my interpretation of how it relates to the story. "The tent led to a mental world where one gives up everything. While giving up the bracelet, the lady wanted to give up the delight her five senses brought, and the desire that they bring before releasing herself to a zone only the sixth sense could feel...the free will ancient scholars talked about was release. In other words, the 'my own desire' written on it was a realm of realization, and the tent was a symbolization of it (the realm of realization being the truth opening Laplace's Box will bring). The bracelet represented personal desire, and the box was a symbol of an earthly seal (the bracelet is like Syam's greed and the box like Laplace's Box role as a charter like a seal). Of it could also be interpreted that as the box was opened, the lady was able to give up on her personal desire and face the next world (once it was decided that Laplace's Box was to be opened, Syam could shed his guilt for his greed). This unicorn's existence is also symbolic. This is a legendary beast that had many meanings to it, but our family interprets it as the beast of possibilities. (the beast that has the possibility to bring justice to the future or destroy it) It was a beast that was born out of everyone's belief and love. We symbolize it as the power of belief...the symbol of hope (the hope the unicorn holds for the future for it is the key to unlocking Laplace's box and bringing justice to the world).” |
the beast of possibility
"The RX-0 Unicorn mobile suit, would be born out of the darkness, where even the army and Anaheim wouldn't see, and would become the key to a journey that would break a hundred-year-old curse. The machine that bore the name of the beast of possibilities would bring release to the world." The most major motif of these novels (and obviously their namesake) is the Unicorn Gundam. Not only is the mobile suit inspired by the unicorn symbolizing hope, thus the hope it can bring to the future, but its characteristics in the story also seemingly represent the power of the human spirit. The Unicorn is commonly personified in many different ways that all lead back to its nature as a representation of the human spirit. When activating for the first time its "Breathing reaches Banagher as a tremor". When splitting open to release its psychoframe, a material that turns the soul into physical energy "The gap at the wrists armor let out a light red glow, appearing like blood vessels" and "The light looks like a geometrical pattern of a substrate circuit expand throughout the entire body like a pulse, making one feel that the giant’s bones under the white skin, the movable frame that forms the unit is glowing". And because of this psychoframe, the entire body lets out a luminescent afterimage, causing the Unicorn to "look like it’s giving off a fighting will". However, the human spirit isn't always pure and just, and this is represented in the Unicorn as well. Upon Banagher's first sight of the cockpit, he described the it as a "black hole that seemed to suck him in" and the pilot's seat like "One would associate this with a torture tool just by looking at it" | The solid white body of the Unicorn symbolizes its purity |
